- Trouxeste o teu livro? - Joe perguntou a Lisa um dia enquanto eles estavam deitados no cais, aproveitando o calor do sol.
- Sim trouxe. Queres ler agora?
- Vou começar a ler agora.
Joe leu o livro de Lisa durante cerca de 30 minutos. Depois, ele quis falar sobre o que leu, mas ela evitou as suas perguntas e comentários, pois não queria ser influenciada por outras pessoas antes de terminar a história.
Depois da conversa, Lisa chegou à conclusão de que a sua escrita tinha tido um grande impacto em Joe. Não era a primeira vez que ele ouvia falar do livro de Lisa. Ele estava ciente do fato de que ela estava escrevendo uma história devido a emails da sua parte informando-o do seu trabalho. No entanto, agora que tinha lido tantas páginas, ele não podia deixar o assunto de lado.
- Aquele rapaz a quem tu te referes na tua história... ele sabe que tu escreveste sobre ele?
- Sim sabe.
- Já o deixaste ler o livro?
- Não, na verdade não.
- Sabes, é melhor não lhe mostrares. Ele vai morrer.(página 9)

- Did you bring your book? - Joe asked Lisa one day while they were lying on the dock, enjoying the warmth of the sun.
- Yes I did. Do you want to read it now?
- I shall start reading it now.
Joe read Lisa's book for about 30 minutes. Afterwards he wanted to talk about what he read, but she avoided his questions and remarks for she did not to want to be influenced by other people before finishing the story.
After their talk Lisa came to the realisation that her writings had had quite an impact on Joe. It was not the first time he had heard about Lisa's book. He was aware of the fact that Lisa was writing a story due to past messages from her part informing him of her work. However, now that he had read so many pages, he could not let it be.
- That guy you always refer to in your story... does he know you wrote about him?
- Yes he does.
- Did you let him read the book already?
- No, not really.
- You know, you better not show it to him. He will die.(page 9)
